In this session, we will explore the evolution of co-teaching within Tracy Unified School District. We’ll begin by discussing our early co-teaching efforts, highlighting the challenges and successes that laid the foundation for a more inclusive approach.

Next, we’ll examine current practices and how UDL principles have transformed our instructional methods to better support students with disabilities. The introduction of a TOSA has been crucial in providing resources and support for educators and students.

We'll also discuss revisions made to IEPs in co-taught content areas, emphasizing the alignment of these plans with priority standards to ensure all students can access a rigorous curriculum. Ongoing PD has been essential, equipping teachers with the tools needed to implement UDL effectively.

Through collaborative efforts, we’ve created an environment where all students can thrive, sharing success stories that highlight the positive impact of these initiatives. This session aims to inspire educators to embrace UDL as a pathway to inclusive learning experiences that meet the diverse needs of every learner. Join us as we share our journey to promote inclusion through innovative teaching strategies.

While the science of reading tells us what is essential for building a reader, the science of learning tells us the conditions that are necessary for learning to thrive and last. Grounded in the belief that UDL unlocks equitable learning opportunities, we will demonstrate how coaching enhances its implementation by providing educators with targeted guidance.

At the county level, we collaborate with districts and charter schools to create universal professional learning pathways that empower coaches, TOSAs, and instructional leaders to foster inclusive environments and scale best practices.

District-wide, our coaching expertise helps align system-wide UDL goals with supplemental support and instructional improvements, supporting LCAP objectives and increasing access for all learners.

At the school-site level, instructional coaches are equipped to bridge theory and practice, guiding teachers in applying UDL strategies to daily instruction and fostering flexible learning environments for diverse students.

This central question anchored our school district’s journey to realizing the vision of closing the opportunity gap for students with disabilities with a design to the margins approach. During this session, you will learn about the systems, structures and practices that facilitated the implementation of UDL as an instructional framework as a core design principle. The session will begin with an overview of Cognitive Schema, how it relates to making mental models of the world.  It will then flow into it's implications for Education most specifically related to prior knowledge and learning as connected to meaning making.  We'll then engage in an activity that will model a humanities/history lesson that can be expanded/contracted for any age/grade level.  Finally a conversation about how to utilize the activity to develop themes will be encouraged.

Inspired by the Cynthia Olmedo quote, “Diversity is being invited to the dance. Inclusion is being asked to dance. Equity is allowing you to choose the music,” this workshop will invite participants to consider research-based inclusive practices for designing equitable classrooms.

Focusing on UDL 3.0, participants will dive deeply into the guidelines to understand the recent expansions and practice designing for Learner Agency. Teaching and leading for critical digital media literacy now includes cultivating generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) literacy to decipher fact from misinformation and disinformation, identifying those perpetuated by bots, countering messages and systems that reinforce stereotypes and harm, and exploring new ways of learning. Preparing youth for democracy with civic engagement strategies include creating digital media content as part of project based learning (PBL), universal design for learning (UDL), culturally relevant and critical digital pedagogy. How might we facilitate learning in which youth reimagine and create the future?

In this session, education leaders will cultivate critical digital leadership with UDL to counter oppression and co-design systems that are responsive to learner variability and the rapidly changing contexts of digital media and generative AI. Critical digital leadership leads to learning that critically interrogates power, representation, agency, digital media, and technologies by decoding, meaning-making, analyzing, persona (exploring identity), and using digital tools for critical digital consumption, production, distribution, and invention. Example lessons and supporting resources will be provided.
